Qualified remote seals
The electronic signature service secures digital documents with qualified, remote seals.
Trust in digital documents
Official documents and business correspondence are increasingly being issued electronically and sent digitally. Secure proof of origin and authenticity is just as indispensable for many digital documents as it is for analogue documents. Modern public authorities, companies and organisations can secure the origin (authenticity) and the integrity of their digital documents with qualified electronic seals. The seals are created with digital certificates from a qualified trust service provider and guarantee a high level of security. They are based on the EU-wide eIDAS Regulation.
Remotely generated seals without hardware
You do not need a seal card or an additional card reader to create qualified remote seals. The remote seal is created via an interface, an API (application programming interface). This allows you to integrate digital seals seamlessly into your existing business and administrative processes.
D-Trust GmbH, the trust service provider of the Bundesdruckerei Group, offers qualified remote seals in accordance with the requirements of the eIDAS Regulation. Every remote seal from D-Trust is additionally and automatically provided with a qualified time stamp. This proves that the content of the document is valid and has not been changed – even after the seal certificate has expired. This is particularly important for electronic archiving, for example.

Product details
Easy integration into your IT processes
D-Trust provides you with the remote seal service within its own highly secure data centre located in Germany. You integrate the remote seal service into existing sealing modules on your IT system or your digital applications via an API.
The linked applications generate hash values – i.e. a unique sequence of numbers and letters – for the documents to be sealed. Only these hash values are exchanged with D-Trust via the API interface in the sealing process. The documents never leave your IT environment. In this way, you retain full control over your documents at all times.
You store the access rights for the use of the remote seal service centrally on your system. This ensures that only authorised employees can issue the remote seal. The remote seal service is always assigned to the organisation, i.e. a legal entity, and is not issued to individuals.
Large-volume sealing processes in seconds
The remote seal service really comes into its own in mass applications. The service supports centralised and automated processes, which makes it possible to accelerate processes and, last but not least, reduce costs.
Long-term security through a combination of seal and time stamp
Qualified eIDAS-compliant seals are valid for up to three years. Every remote qualified electronic seal is also automatically provided with a qualified time stamp by D-Trust. This combination of qualified seals and time stamps not only ensures authenticity and origin, but also long-term verifiability of the electronically secured documents. The time stamp issued contains secure information such as date and time to prove the time of sealing for later verification. Subsequent further sealing of the documents is therefore not necessary.

Frequently asked questions
Qualified electronic seals can be created in different ways: either with the help of a seal card in combination with card readers or completely without hardware with the remote seal service. Technically speaking, both methods generate qualified electronic seals. Both types of seal ensure the origin and integrity, i.e. the authenticity, of digital documents. The difference lies in the place where the key is stored for creation of the seals. Whereas with the classic seal card, these keys are stored directly on the card as secure, certified hardware, but with the remote seal, the key is secured centrally in the data centre of the trust service provider.
