sign-me API – Creating Digital Signatures

The location-independent solution in a workflow or specialised process

Digital signatures via the sign-me API simplify the day-to-day work of companies and self-employed people who need to provide many electronic signatures. They enable remote signatures to be created from any location, thereby ensuring maximum flexibility. They are used across all industries and increase efficiency in public authorities, in finance, in the processing of personnel contracts and in the field of auditing.

Areas of application of the sign-me API

Connecting sign-me via API or via an existing workflow puts the focus on organisations whose employees frequently provide eIDAS-compliant electronic signatures. Various connection options are available, such as integration into the organisation’s existing software solution. People who require a lower volume of signatures, however, can use sign-me via the sign-me portal instead.

Digital Signature at a Glance

  • Efficient – processes without media discontinuity in workflow and specialised processes
  • Convenient – sign directly online via tablet und smartphone
  • Simple – intuitively operable user interface
  • Versatile – various connection options via interfaces as well
  • Legally compliant – eIDAS-compliant electronic signature

The API solution for legally compliant and secure electronic signatures

Important to know: D-Trust covers all signature levels according to eIDAS with the API solution of remote signature service sign-me for frequent signers. The qualified electronic signature has the same legal effect as a handwritten signature, and fulfils the written form requirement. The use of advanced electronic signatures (AES) is particularly well suited to internal (approval) processes, for example.

Before qualified electronic signatures can be used, one-time personal identification of the natural person is required by law. Depending on the connection selected, the identification procedures are offered directly in the workflows, enabling fast online identification (using AusweisIDent or VideoIdent) or on-site identification at the organisation using Point-of-Sale-Ident. The electronic signature can be used directly.

The signature is triggered via a mobile device with a second factor. The technical components for creating signatures are located in the secure environment of D-Trust. As soon as documents have been signed with sign-me, they are protected against unnoticed changes. Any subsequent manipulation is made clearly visible in all common programmes.

In addition, every qualified sign-me signature is automatically provided with a qualified time stamp. This ensures the permanent verifiability of signatures (LTV function) and promotes the long-term archiving of documents.

Full Flexibility from Connecting to Accessing the System

D-Trust’s sign-me is already integrated into many software solutions via an API interface and used in various scenarios. An organisation’s requirements determine how access is mapped.

  1. D-Trust Signature Server
D-Trust’s ready-made workflow solution, the Signature Server with a connected signature portal, provides organisations and users with a modular application. The solution can be provided on-premise or hosted. We will be happy to advise you on just the right application scenario for your organisation.
  2. Direct Connection via API to Own Interfaces
If you are already using an existing system or your own specialised process, sign-me can be quickly and intuitively integrated into existing applications using an API (application programming interface). If you have any questions about the connection process, please do not hesitate to contact us.
  3. Reliable Partners
D-Trust relies on a comprehensive partner network: sign-me is already directly integrated into many workflows of signature software and workflow providers. This means that you can start using our partners’ applications right away. You will find a selection of partners directly in the sign-me FAQ.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. When you create a qualified electronic signature using the sign-me remote signature service, it is legally binding in accordance with the eIDAS Regulation and is equivalent to a handwritten signature.

In all connection versions (D-Trust signature server, API direct or partner application), integration of D-Trust remote sealing service seal-me can be readily added to sign-me. This allows the personal signature of a natural person to be linked as needed to a secure proof of origin from the organisation (seal).

It is not currently possible to include an organisational affiliation in the sign-me signature certificates. For this application case, you can combine the signatures from sign-me with a seal from the organisation. Alternatively, D-Trust signature cards offer the option of adding an organisational affiliation to signature certificates.

In the sign-me signature certificates, it is currently possible to integrate professional attributes for participants in the telematics infrastructure (e.g., doctors, psychotherapists). A corresponding authorisation for sign-me can be issued in combination with a health professional card issued by D-Trust. The integration of other occupational attributes is not currently possible. Alternatively, D-Trust signature cards (Profession Cards) offer the option of adding a professional attribute to signature certificates.

Yes, a qualified electronic signature with sign-me is eIDAS-compliant and also includes a time stamp for the signature. It is therefore not only equivalent to a handwritten signature but in fact offers even more probative value than a handwritten signature due to the time stamp.

sign-me can be connected either via the D-Trust signature server or via an API direct connection or a partner connection. If you are not sure which option best suits your systems, please do not hesitate to contact us.
